Mission Statement
Loughborough University’s Museum of AI Cultures (MAIC) will be a university-affiliated institution dedicated to fostering creative and critical engagement with artificial intelligence (AI) as a driver of change in contemporary cultures, societies, and knowledge frameworks. MAIC is an open, interdisciplinary forum where the cultural, ethical, environmental, and technological dimensions of AI as tangible and intangible heritage can be examined with academic rigour and public accountability.
In keeping with the civic responsibilities of university museums, MAIC positions itself as an experimental and participatory space for dialogue among diverse publics, scholars, practitioners, and policymakers. It is committed to upholding the ethical standards required of museums, and to advancing debates about AI that are human-centred, accessible, inclusive, and reflexive in their use of planetary resources.
By integrating AI into its curatorial infrastructure, MAIC tests new approaches to cultural stewardship and audience engagement in the digital age. Through exhibitions, co-produced programmes, and educational events, MAIC supports learning, knowledge-sharing, enjoyment, and reflection in the development of a new technological heritage
